LinkedIn video specs: size, length and format (2026)
Quick answer: LinkedIn takes videos from 3 seconds to 15 minutes from a desktop, or 10 minutes from the mobile app or a company page, up to 5 GB, at any shape from tall 1:2.4 to wide 2.4:1. Export an MP4 at 1080 by 1920 for vertical or 1920 by 1080 for horizontal. For a company page, I'd keep most videos around a minute, with the words on screen.
LinkedIn accepts video files from 75 KB to 5 GB, 3 seconds to 15 minutes long, at resolutions from 256 x 144 up to 4096 x 2304, per LinkedIn's help center as of November 2026. Company page posts top out at 10 minutes. If you export an MP4 at 1080p and keep it under a few minutes, you'll never bump into a limit.

What are LinkedIn's video specs?
Here's what LinkedIn's help center lists for regular posts and for video ads, as of November 2026.
| Spec | Regular posts | Video ads |
|---|---|---|
| File type | MP4 (see the note on MOV below) | MP4 |
| File size | 75 KB to 5 GB | 75 KB to 500 MB |
| Length | 3 seconds to 15 minutes from desktop, 10 minutes from the mobile app. Company page posts: 10 minutes max | 3 seconds to 30 minutes. LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds |
| Aspect ratio | Anything from 1:2.4 (tall) to 2.4:1 (wide) | 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 (LinkedIn's recommended ratio) and 9:16 |
| Resolution | 256 x 144 to 4096 x 2304 | 16:9 up to 1920 x 1080, 1:1 up to 1920 x 1920, 4:5 up to 1080 x 1350, 9:16 up to 1080 x 1920 |
| Frame rate | 10 to 60 fps | Under 30 fps |
| Bit rate | 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps | Not listed |
| Thumbnail | No separate spec published | Optional. JPG or PNG, up to 2 MB, same shape and resolution as the video |
| Captions | SRT file, added from desktop | SRT file, plain text only |
LinkedIn changes these from time to time, and its own pages don't always agree with each other. If something won't upload, check the current help article for the kind of post you're making.
What size should a LinkedIn video be?
For most posts, 1080 x 1920 (vertical, 9:16) or 1080 x 1350 (4:5) is the right size. Horizontal videos should be 1920 x 1080.
All three sit well inside LinkedIn's range, per LinkedIn's help center. Going bigger than 1080p mostly makes the upload slower, and on a phone you'd be hard pressed to see the difference.
The reels we post for clients go out at 1080 x 1920 with the captions burned into the picture.
What video format does LinkedIn accept?
Export an MP4 and you're covered everywhere: personal posts, company pages and ads.
One thing to know. LinkedIn's help page for company pages and career pages says it no longer accepts MOV, AVI or QuickTime files. Its general video troubleshooting page still lists MOV as supported. Rather than find out which one is right on deadline, just export MP4 with H.264 video, which LinkedIn's ads page also lists as a supported codec.
How long can a LinkedIn video be?
A regular LinkedIn post can run up to 15 minutes when you upload from a desktop, and 10 minutes from the mobile app, per LinkedIn's help center. Company page posts are capped at 10 minutes. The minimum is 3 seconds.
Video ads can run up to 30 minutes, though LinkedIn itself recommends 15 to 30 seconds so the ad qualifies for every placement. In-stream video ads max out at 90 seconds.
How long should a LinkedIn video be?
For a B2B company page, I'd keep most videos around a minute, and plenty can be shorter. That's my opinion from doing this every day, not a rule LinkedIn publishes.
When one of our clients tells a story on camera, we let it play as one take and trim the fat around it, and it usually lands near a minute. A quick point from an expert might be 30 seconds. If it only takes 20 seconds to say, it's a 20-second video.
The first couple of seconds matter more than the total length. If the video opens with "Hi, I'm Dave, and I'm the regional director of..." people are gone before Dave gets to the good part. Open with the problem your buyer has. Introduce Dave later, or let the caption do it.
Longer videos have a place. Our brand film runs 2 to 3 minutes, and it does its best work when your sales team sends it to someone who's already interested. A buyer who asked about you will watch three minutes. A stranger in the feed usually won't.
Should LinkedIn videos be vertical, square or horizontal?
For a company page, go vertical (9:16) or 4:5. They take up more of a phone screen than a horizontal video does, and a lot of LinkedIn scrolling happens on phones.
LinkedIn's ad specs list 4:5 as the recommended ratio. My read: LinkedIn expects most people to be watching on a phone.
Horizontal still makes sense for a video that will live on your website, in a proposal, or on a big screen at a trade show. When we film, we plan for both, so one film day can feed the vertical reels and the horizontal brand film.
Do LinkedIn videos need captions?
Yes. A lot of people scroll LinkedIn at work, in meetings, or next to someone, with the sound off. If the words aren't on screen, they miss the whole point.
You have two options. LinkedIn lets you attach an SRT caption file when you post from a desktop, on a personal profile or a company page, per LinkedIn's help center. Or you can burn the captions into the video itself.
We burn them in. They look the same on every phone, they don't depend on anyone's settings, and you can match them to your brand's fonts and colors.
What actually makes people stop on a LinkedIn video?
Your people, talking about the problems your buyers have. The specs are the easy part. Any intern can export a 1080 x 1920 MP4 in five minutes.
What's hard is getting the head of operations to explain, on camera, why a project went sideways and how they fixed it, the way they'd tell it over lunch. That's the video your buyer watches all the way through. It's also the one they remember when they need what you sell.
I'd rather 100 of the right people watch your video than a thousand of the wrong ones. Specs get you uploaded. A real person saying something true about your buyer's problem gets you a phone call.
That's what we do in The Partnership, our done-for-you social media for established companies. We film your people one day a quarter, and we make and post about 20 pieces a month on your company page: reels, carousels, image posts and text-on-video. Every one is built to these specs, so you never have to look them up again. You can see what it costs on our social media pricing post, or start at the home page.
Common questions
What is the best video size for LinkedIn?
1080 x 1920 (vertical, 9:16) or 1080 x 1350 (4:5) for posts people watch on a phone, and 1920 x 1080 for horizontal. All three fit inside LinkedIn's supported range of 256 x 144 to 4096 x 2304.
What is the maximum video length on LinkedIn?
15 minutes for a regular post uploaded from a desktop, and 10 minutes from the mobile app, per LinkedIn's help center. Company page posts are capped at 10 minutes. Video ads can run up to 30 minutes.
What is the maximum file size for a LinkedIn video?
5 GB for regular posts and 500 MB for video ads. The minimum for both is 75 KB.
What size should a LinkedIn video thumbnail be?
For video ads, LinkedIn asks for a JPG or PNG up to 2 MB that matches the video's shape and resolution. LinkedIn's help center doesn't publish a separate thumbnail spec for regular posts, so make the thumbnail the same size as the video.
Can you add captions to a LinkedIn video?
Yes. You can attach an SRT file when you post from a desktop, on a personal profile or a company page. Or burn the captions into the video before you upload, which is what we do.
If you want your company page posting video your buyers actually watch, book a 15-minute call with me. I'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense for you.
